THE HISTORY OF COVENANT HOME CARE

Celebrating over 30 Years of Community Service!
Home Health care, the oldest tradition of health care delivery in this country, has now become the choice of a new generation who seeks high quality, cost-effective alternatives for themselves, their parents and their children.

Covenant Home Care is proud to have been providing medical home health care services to our communities for over 30 years. In 1976, upon the recommendation of the Council of Priests, and with the support of the Diocese of Allentown, the decision was made to form a Holy Family Nursing Services. Holy Family was created to assist and provide medical home care for the homebound elderly in that services area. Development was assigned to Monsignor McHale of Holy Family Manor with the assistance of Sister Audrey Kimbar. As a result of their efforts, in 1977, the agency began serving patients of Schuylkill County as "Holy Family Nursing Services Home Health Care Agency". That same year, the agency became Medicare-certified.

The agency had continued to grow in Schuylkill County and in 1986 the decision was made to establish a Berks County branch, which began serving patients that same year. In 1987, the name was changed to "Holy Family Home Health Care". In the following years the agency became an incorporated Entity and received directions through its Board of Directors from our three affiliated Catholic hospitals.

From 1994 to 1995 the agency received Medicare hospice certification and changed its name to "Holy Family Home Health and Hospice" to identify the new service. Holy Family's vision for care and service to the community was the force behind a revitalization plan. During this time services in Berks County were provided under St. Joseph Hospital as "St. Joseph Home Health and Hospice". By the year 2000 services would again be provided in Berks and Schuylkill counties under it's new and current name "Covenant Home Care".

Today, as hospital stays decrease, the demand for medical home care is growing. Strict regulations imposed on the hospitals result in more patients being sent home in need of continued medical home care. Also, given the choice, many patients would prefer to receive medical treatment at home whenever possible. Studies have shown that people recover better and faster when cared for in their place of residence and as a cost effective alternative to institutional care. Many physicians find that individualized treatment programs administered and monitored in the home are very effective in achieving positive outcomes for their patients.

So, why choose Covenant Home Care for you, your parents, and your family?

Because we have ALWAYS been devoted to keeping families together, in the comfort of their place of residence. Because COVENANT HOME CARE brings skilled compassionate care home.
